River Gee County |March 30, 2026| A wave of sorrow swept across River Gee County as residents gathered to bid a final farewell to respected educator and broadcaster Newton N. Winn who was laid to rest on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Fish-Town Cemetery.
Mr. Winn’s passing marks the close of a remarkable chapter defined by decades of service in education, community leadership, and media development in southeastern Liberia.
Born on September 29, 1949, he died on March 2, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy rooted in knowledge-sharing and public engagement.
Widely admired across River Gee and neighboring Grand Gedeh County, Mr. Winn earned a reputation as a disciplined teacher, a committed mentor, and a trusted voice on radio.
His journey began in Chedepo Jarkaken, his birthplace, where he served as a classroom teacher and inspired many young people through his passion for learning and personal development.
His dedication and leadership later led him to the position of Principal at Nymah Tayee Lutheran School in Fish-Town.
In that role, he worked tirelessly to improve academic standards, strengthen school administration, and guide both students and staff toward excellence.

In addition to his contributions to education, Mr. Winn played an influential role in the media landscape of the region.
He served as a broadcaster with ELRZ Radio in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, where his voice became a familiar and trusted source of information, education, and community dialogue.
He further expanded his impact as Editor-in-Chief of Radio Gee, a community radio station in Fish-Town, during the administration of former station manager and former Representative Christian S. Chea.
Through this role, he helped promote grassroots journalism and foster public awareness on key local issues.
During funeral ceremonies, tributes poured in from family members, friends, former students, and colleagues, all of whom described Mr. Winn as a man of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to service.
Many noted that his influence extended far beyond the classroom and radio studio, touching countless lives throughout the region.
The late Newton N Winn is survived by his children, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild, who now carry forward his legacy of service and commitment.
As River Gee County mourns his loss, many remember Newton Winn not only for what he accomplished, but for the enduring impact he made on education, media, and community development.
