Grand Kru County |Jan. 1, 2026 | A prominent citizen of Grand Kru County, John Chie has donated 32 bundles of zinc sheets and LD$180,000 to communities in Wedabo Chiefdom in an effort to support seasonal celebrations and community development initiatives.

The donation was formally presented to the six General Town Chiefs of Wedabo Chiefdom, including the current Paramount Chief (PC), former Paramount Chief Seyon, and the Clan Chiefs of Zoloken and Juduken clans.

Speaking during the presentation, Chie, a former County Coordinator of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s Social Cash Transfer Program in Grand Kru County, said the gesture was driven by his desire to uplift traditional institutions and improve living conditions in rural communities.

“This zinc is meant to help our people improve their homes and community structures, while the cash support is to ensure that every community can meaningfully participate in this season’s celebrations,” Chie stated. “Our traditional leaders deserve respect and tangible support.”

Chie, who currently serves as National Customs and Excise Collector at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, stressing that leadership must go beyond words.

“Development must start with the people at the grassroots. Standing with our chiefs and communities during both festive and difficult times is not politics—it is responsibility,” he emphasized.

He further noted that his engagement with communities across Grand Kru County is part of a broader vision for inclusive development and people-centered representation.

Meanwhile, community members and traditional authorities expressed gratitude for the timely intervention; describing the donation as a sign of unity, cultural respect, and practical leadership.

“This support came at the right time,” one chief remarked. “It shows that Honorable John Chie understands our needs and respects our traditions.”

The gesture has been widely welcomed across Wedabo Chiefdom.
