Fish-Town, River Gee County – May 10, 2025 – A troubling situation has emerged within the River Gee County sports community concerning the Sports Steering Committee, led by Madam Maild Sugar Kollie.
The committee, appointed for the 2024/25 National County Sports Meet, is now under financial examination following a request from the County Superintendent.
In an unexpected action, Superintendent Mike T. Swengbe has instructed the committee to submit a comprehensive financial report within seven days.

This request raises doubts about the committee’s transparency and accountability in managing sports governance in the county.
The Sports Steering Committee, appointed by the County Chief Patron of Sports on October 13, 2024, was responsible for organizing and fundraising for the county sports team, as well as promoting the county team.
Concerns have arisen within the county regarding alleged financial mismanagement and improper use of funds intended to support the county team during recent national sports competitions.
In a letter addressed to Madam Kollie, the superintendent underscored the significance of sports in River Gee to county pride and youth development, warning that any mishandling of finances could adversely affect support for sports in the county.
He stressed the importance of financial transparency, asserting that “the success of sports initiatives relies on the trust and confidence of community members, and I will ensure that raised funds are utilized appropriately and for their intended purposes.”
This demand from the superintendent comes in the wake of overdue reports and growing rumors surrounding financial irregularities, prompting concern from community members.
However, Superintendent, Swengbe, has declined requests for resignations from members of the Maild Sugar Kollie Sports Steering Committee, stating that no member should resign until the committee provides a clear and comprehensive financial report.

As the committee faces increasing pressure to clarify its financial situation, there is a need to reaffirm its commitment to integrity and proper governance in the county.
As of now, the committee has not made any official statement regarding the superintendent’s demands. Attempts by our reporter to contact Madam Kollie have been unsuccessful as all contact numbers appear to be unreachable.
Sources within the committee have informed our reporter that they are in the process of reviewing their financial documents and preparing the necessary reports, although they are encountering difficulties in tracking certain expenses and reconciling financial activities.
Local sports governance experts have emphasized the importance of taking prompt and transparent actions to restore public trust. Stakeholders are hopeful that the upcoming financial report will not only shed light on the committee’s financial practices but also reaffirm their dedication to developing sports within the county.
Residents have expressed a blend of concern and optimism, eager for clarity about the committee’s financial situation. They acknowledge the essential role of sports in fostering community growth and cohesion, advocating for greater accountability to prevent future mismanagement and to ensure that funds are used appropriately for enhancing sports activities.
In light of allegations of financial mismanagement, the next seven days, as directed by the County chief patron of Sports, will be crucial in shaping the future of sports governance in River Gee County.
As a result of an impressive report from the sports steering committee, the county’s chief Patron of Sports, Swengbe, has yet to reveal the new committee for the forthcoming 2025/26 National County Sports. In this event, River Gee will compete against host Maryland, as well as River Cess and Grand Kru in Group A.
