Sasstown Daryokpo, Grand Kru County |April 10, 2026 |For dozens of families in Sasstown Daryokpo, Wednesday night turned into a nightmare as a violent storm tore through the community, leaving homes damaged, roofs ripped away, and families forced to sleep in the open.

What began as an ordinary evening quickly turned into fear and confusion as powerful winds and heavy rain battered the town, destroying several houses and scattering personal belongings.

Parents were seen struggling to protect their children from the rain as the storm ripped through the community, leaving many with nowhere to go.

“We lost almost everything,” one affected resident said, fighting back tears. “Our children had nowhere to sleep last night.”

The destruction has left many families exposed and vulnerable, with some victims now taking refuge with relatives while others remain outdoors.

Andrew T. Togba, the General Town Chief, told this paper that the situation is deeply troubling and requires urgent intervention.

“Our people are suffering,” Chief Togba said. “Many families are homeless tonight, and we need urgent help from the government and humanitarian partners.”

Beyond the damaged homes, the storm also brought down a large tree that blocked the Sasstown Down-Beach–Daryokpo corridor, cutting off vehicle access and worsening the community’s isolation.

For residents, the greatest concern now is survival — finding shelter, food, and safety for their children as they await help.

The storm has once again exposed the fragile living conditions of many rural communities in Grand Kru County, where one night of extreme weather can turn lives upside down.
