I enrolled at St. Mary’s Catholic High School in the mid -eighties. Some exciting moments we had as kids were when she visited our school and passed from one class to another to greet us.
During her visit, she would introduce herself and have few minutes’ discussion with us. Though the time was short but her proficiency in the English language was well admired and brought some excitement.
Since I left St. Mary’s Catholic School, there wasn’t an opportunity for me to interact with her anymore. However, destiny, time and preparation provided me an opportunity recently when the Visitor to the University of Liberia and President of Liberia H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. appointed me on the University of Liberia Presidential Search Committee. She was appointed as head of the committee.
While working together on the committee, I was again excited by her level of professionalism and articulation. I seized a moment and reminded her about my admiration for her while growing up as a kid at St. Mary. She smiled and appreciated my recognition.
Today, she remains in academia as one outstanding professional who continues to educate thousands of Liberian kids.
Sister Mary Laurene Brown, we recognize your role as an educator. May God continue to guide your thoughts and lead your steps as you provide services to our younger generation. We give God the Glory.
