Efforts to improve coordination and visibility in the fight against crime in rural Liberia have received a boost as the Community Watch Forum (CWF) in Dewien District benefits from new financial support aimed at standardizing its operations.
The Forum, on April 10, 2026, received 70,000 Liberian dollars as part of a 100,000 LD pledge from the District #3 lawmaker to facilitate the renewal of uniforms for its members—an intervention seen as key to strengthening identity, discipline, and cohesion among community-based security volunteers.
The support follows a formal request from the Watch Forum and is being hailed as a timely step toward enhancing grassroots security efforts in areas where the presence of law enforcement remains limited.
Speaking during the presentation on April 10, the lawmaker underscored the critical role the Watch Forum continues to play in bridging security gaps across rural communities. He noted that members have made significant sacrifices, often working without compensation to safeguard lives and property.
He further disclosed plans to advocate at the national level for a dedicated allocation within Liberia’s police budget to support Community Watch Forums across the country. He also called on county and district authorities to prioritize funding for such initiatives through local development budgets.
Receiving the funds on behalf of the group, Dewien District Watch Forum Coordinator, Elijah Johnson expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as both timely and motivating. He emphasized that improved uniforms would not only enhance identification but also boost morale and operational effectiveness.
Johnson reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to complementing state security efforts, particularly in curbing crime and protecting residents in hard-to-reach areas.
The Forum also acknowledged ongoing support from local authorities, including the district leadership’s recent provision of three motorcycles to improve patrol mobility.
District Commissioner Anthony Healeo praised the Watch Forum for its dedication and impact, noting that the group continues to serve as a vital link in communities where formal security presence is minimal.
With renewed support and improved resources, the Watch Forum says it is better positioned to strengthen patrols, enhance coordination, and sustain its role in safeguarding communities across Dewien District.
