The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated a Joint Committee comprising Contracts & Monopoly, Investment & Concession, Labor, Mines & Energy, Natural Resources & Environment, and Judiciary to conduct a comprehensive review of all concessions across Liberia and report its findings to Plenary.
A statement from the Press Bureau is quoted as saying the decision follows a communication from Bong County Electoral District #6 Representative, Moima Briggs-Mensah, presented during the Thursday, February 27, 2025, session.
In her communication, Representative Briggs-Mensah called for an in-depth assessment of existing concession agreements, particularly evaluating their performance and compliance with the terms and conditions set forth by the Government of Liberia.
She emphasized the need for lawmakers to examine the tangible benefits derived from these agreements and assess the balance between investor gains and national interest.
According to her, this review is critical to ensuring that concession agreements align with Liberiaโs long-term development goals and contribute positively to the economic, social, and environmental well-being of its citizens.
Representative Briggs-Mensah further warned that failure to conduct such an assessment could undermine national development efforts and hinder Liberiaโs ability to fully maximize the benefits of these agreements.
The House of Representatives remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and economic sustainability in all concession agreements to ensure they serve the best interests of the Liberian people, a release from the House Press Bureau said.
