Sayjilium, Bomi County–The Chief Executive Officer of the A-Z Health Facility, Alexander Jackson, has called for stronger budgetary support from both county and national authorities to improve healthcare delivery in rural parts of Bomi County.
“Inadequate financial support continues to undermine the ability of local clinics to maintain essential medical services, retain skilled staff, and meet the growing health needs of residents, CEO Alexander Jackson said.
Alexander Jackson who spoke last weekend in Sayjilium, Bomi Count emphasized that while the facility currently meets key international standards with improved infrastructure and modern medical equipment; sustained funding is critical to keep operations running effectively.
“We have come a long way in upgrading our facilities to meet international benchmarks,” Mr. Jackson stated. “But without consistent financial support from the county and national government, we risk losing the progress made. Budgetary backing is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for sustaining life-saving healthcare in rural Liberia.”
Jackson revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Bomi County Council to ensure that the A-Z Health Facility is included in the 2026 fiscal year county budget. He argued that a subsidy through the national budget would significantly strengthen the clinic’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare to the people of Mannah Clan, Klay District, and surrounding communities.

He also urged the Bomi County Legislative Caucus to intervene and advocate for the inclusion of rural health facilities in future budgetary allocations, stressing that rural health workers remain some of the most under-supported public servants in the country.
“Our nurses and health workers continue to serve under difficult circumstances, many times without proper incentives,” he said. “If we want to save lives and strengthen primary healthcare, we must invest in them.”
In addition to his financial appeal, CEO Jackson outlined several ongoing and upcoming public health initiatives at the facility. He disclosed that antenatal immunization campaigns have been launched in conjunction with Mpox and malaria prevention awareness programs, targeting hundreds of residents in Sayjilium and neighboring towns.
Looking ahead, the CEO announced the launch of a new youth-focused initiative titled “Students Against Substance Abuse”, designed to combat the rising rate of drug use and addiction in the district. The program aims to empower students as community advocates promoting drug-free environments and positive behavioral change.
“Health care is not only about medicine; it’s about shaping a healthy mindset in our communities,” Jackson noted. “This new program will help our young people take the lead in fighting substance abuse and preserving their future.”
Stakeholders attending the program echoed similar sentiments, calling for greater coordination between the Ministry of Health, the Bomi County Health Team, and local leaders to ensure the sustainability of rural healthcare facilities.
As the A-Z Health Facility continues to expand its services and outreach, its management and partners are hopeful that renewed budgetary commitments will allow the clinic to serve as a model of rural healthcare excellence in western Liberia.
