Monrovia, Liberia —Sunday, October 26, 2025—The Grand Gedeh University Students Union (GGUSU) has declared a mass peaceful protest demanding the immediate dismissal of Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant.
The student body, announcing their “Grant Must Go” campaign, plans to march in Monrovia on Monday, November 3, 2025, to petition President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for prompt action.

Allegations of Poor Governance and Abuse of Power
In a strongly worded press release issued on Friday, GGUSU accused Superintendent Grant of “poor governance, abuse of power, and betrayal of public trust.” The Union characterized Grant as an “egocentric, divisive, and self-serving leader” whose actions are allegedly “undermining the future of Grand Gedeh County.”
Crippling Student Operations
A central grievance is Grant’s alleged refusal to release the county’s $30,000 budgetary allotment for 2024, which is intended to support students.
GGUSU claims that despite fulfilling all necessary procedures, this refusal has crippled their operations; thereby forcing many underprivileged students to drop out of school and demonstrating a “blatant disregard for youth development.”
The release further opined that Grant has “subjugated and oppressed all sectors of the county, turning public offices into personal fiefdoms” intended to his biddings.
Land Lease Controversy Cited
In addition to the financial dispute, the countywide student umbrella organization expressed outrage over the alleged leasing of 500 acres of ancestral land to a Burkinabe national for 30 years at $600,000. GGUSU described this move, allegedly made without local consent, as “an insult to the legacy of our forefathers” and a violation of the Land Rights Act of 2018.
“We have tolerated enough deceit and arrogance under Superintendent Grant’s watch,” the Union declared. “His refusal to release the students’ funds and his reckless mismanagement of county resources are attacks on our future.”
GGUSU’s Demands
The Union emphasized that the planned November 3rd protest will be peaceful, disciplined, and “people-driven,” reflecting a collective call for accountability. Their key demands include:
1. Immediate removal of Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant
2. Release of the 2024 budgetary allotment owed to GGUSU and other local groups
3. A National investigation into the alleged illegal leasing of ancestral land
4. The appointment of a transparent, people-centered leader
The GGUSU concluded by urging students, youth, and traditional leaders to unite for what they insist is “a principled fight for justice and the future of a people,” vowing, “We will not bow to intimidation or surrender to manipulation.”
