Gbarnga City, Bong County—Monday, October 27, 2025—The regional commander for Traffic at the Liberia National Police responsible for Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties has alarmed over the increase in accident cases within the region.

Speaking to Rural Reporters News Network in Bong County on Friday, October 24, Commander Aaron Jacob Vesselee narrated that the increased in accidents cases in Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties have been due to over speeding and other kinds of negligence by some drivers while on duty. He added that unfortunately, this state of affairs have led to the loss of too many precious lives in the region.

He specifically mentioned drivers plying the route from Monrovia to Ganta whom he accused of exhibiting high degree of lack of focus and over speeding, especially from Monrovia to Ganta.

Commander Vesselee recounted that from January to October of this year they have been able to record over 100 accident cases, with high concentration of fatalities in the region.

County wise,”Bong County has been able to record the highest number of accidents cases followed by Nimba with 7 reported dead, while Lofa has recorded six deaths,” Commander Vesselee declared.

Mr. Vesselee told Rural Reporters News Network that his team in the region has tried to raise awareness on radio stations and in public places for drivers relative to safe driving, but some drivers are yet to follow the safety measures.

He however stated that, he and his team are planning to execute another round of sensitization and awareness for all drivers and vehicle owners in region 3 with the overall objective of minimizing the number of accidents.

Also commenting on the recent accidents that occurred between Gbarnga and Suakoko and claimed six lives, Commander Vesselee lamented that the incident happened due to collision of the black taxi  bearing license plate # A16535 with a pickup coming from the opposite direction and belonging to a staff in the offices of one senator (name withheld) of Sinoe County. He added that the accident was quite devastating and claimed the life of taxi driver Thomas Sumo.

Mr. Jacob Aaron Vesselee said the taxi had 10 passengers on board and 6 lost their life, while four persons onboard the pickup survived.

He concluded that out of the six deaths, 5 have already by family members’ burial while one is still in the Police’s possession. Meanwhile, the region 3 is calling on the public to help law enforcement in locating dead person’s relatives and loved ones.
