    24 Freed, 5 Under Probe in Six-Day-Old Baby Theft In Zwedru

    Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County – November 19, 2025-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has released 24 suspects who were detained following the mysterious disappearance of a five-day-old baby from the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru.

    Meanwhile, five individuals remain in police custody and are undergoing rigorous investigation as prime suspects in the case.

    Baby Found following Intensive Search

    The alarming incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025, at approximately 2:55 A.M., when the newborn was reported missing from the hospital. The LNP immediately launched a vigorous search operation with significant support from local citizens and the media.

    Their efforts paid off later the same day. Between 8:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. on November 16, the five-day-old baby was safely discovered in a house located in the Kudah Bye Pass community, near the B and P Guest House and the Zoe Pennue Movement for Development headquarters.

    Five Prime Suspects under Investigation

    According to Chief Inspector Samuel N. Paye, Regional Commander of the LNP’s Women and Children Department, preliminary police investigations have determined that the 24 individuals released had no connection to the baby’s disappearance.

    CIP Paye confirmed that the remaining five persons are considered prime suspects and are currently being held and investigated at the Liberia National Police Headquarters in Zwedru.

    The five undergoing intense investigation are 2 Nurses,1 Hospital Security guard, the lady who allegedly stole the baby and the other lady who reported the child.

    Community Celebrates Safe Return, Calls for Justice

    The news of the missing child’s safe recovery sparked celebrations among the citizens and residents of Zwedru. Many expressed their deep appreciation for the prompt and effective efforts of the Liberia National Police in locating and returning the infant.

    Residents of Zwedru City in celebratory and jubilant mood following the news that the newborn has been found.

    Amidst the relief, a strong call for justice has emerged, with many community members recommending and urging the LNP to ensure that all those involved in the abduction are brought to justice through the judicial process.
