Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh |March 25, 2026 |The Liberia Telecommunications Authority’s (LTA) IMEI Regulatory team held a successful public consultative engagement in Zwedru yesterday on March 24, 2026, bringing together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the proposed IMEI regulations.

Led by Senior Economic Regulatory Analyst Kwatama Bettie, the team visited schools, marketplaces, and government offices, including the Superintendent and City Mayor’s offices.
They also made appearances on local radio stations, Smile FM and Top FM, to spread the message on the importance of IMEI registration.
The proposed regulations aim to create a safer digital environment by requiring the registration of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers for all devices.
This will empower the proposed Central Identification Registry (CIR) to track and blacklist stolen phones nationwide.
During the engagement, technicians explained that registering IMEI numbers is a simple process that involves dialing *#06# on a phone to retrieve the unique identifier.
Community members were urged to save their IMEI numbers and keep them confidential, as it serves as a digital footprint.
The IMEI registration initiative has been welcomed by the community, with many stakeholders recognizing its potential to reduce phone theft and promote a culture of accountability.
The LTA team encouraged citizens to participate in the ongoing consultation process and contribute to shaping the country’s digital future.
The engagement in Zwedru is part of the LTA’s nationwide effort to raise awareness on the importance of IMEI registration and gather feedback on the proposed regulations.
