Liberia, West Africa |May 19, 2026| Hope is growing again among football fans in Liberia as the national football team prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Liberia national football team, popularly known as the Lone Star, has been placed in Group K alongside Mali, Cape Verde, and Rwanda.
Many supporters believe the group will be challenging, but there is renewed confidence that Liberia can compete strongly and possibly qualify for the tournament.
Liberia last appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2002 during the era of football legend George Weah.
Since then, the team has experienced years of disappointment, including missed qualification opportunities, changes in coaching staff, and inconsistent performances.
Fans say the appointment of Moroccan coach Erradi has brought fresh hope and excitement to the national side.
Supporters believe his focus on discipline, organization, and teamwork could help improve Liberia’s performances during the qualifiers.
Football observers see Mali as the strongest team in the group, while Cape Verde and Rwanda are also considered competitive sides with recent international experience.
At the same time, many Liberians are encouraged by the rise of younger players and the presence of experienced internationals who could help build a more united and competitive team.
For supporters across the country, qualifying for AFCON would mean more than football.
Many see it as a source of national pride and a chance for Liberia to regain its place among Africa’s respected football nations after 25 years away from the tournament.
