Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County |May 12, 2026 |The Federation of Liberian Youth has ordered an immediate halt to all official activities of the Grand Gedeh County Youth for Development Association (GYDDA), following allegations surrounding the association’s president in connection with a reported LD$200,000 financial controversy.

‎In a strongly worded press statement issued Monday from the FLY Grand Gedeh Secretariat at the Zwedru Youth Center, the national youth body said it is taking the matter seriously due to mounting public concern and the potential damage the scandal could cause to the credibility of youth leadership in the county.

‎The Federation said allegations involving public trust and youth leadership cannot be ignored and must be handled with “seriousness and impartiality.”

‎“Every allegation involving public trust and youth leadership must be treated with seriousness and impartiality,” the statement emphasized.

‎As part of its intervention, FLY announced that all official youth activities, meetings, public engagements, financial transactions, and organizational decisions under the Grand Gedeh County Youth for Development Association have been temporarily suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

‎According to the statement, the directive affects the Eight Administrative Youth Leadership and the Executive Committee of the county youth body.

‎The Federation clarified that the decision is not meant to punish individuals, but rather to preserve the integrity of the institution while investigations are conducted.

‎FLY further disclosed that it will immediately launch a series of closed-door consultations involving the executive committee of the county youth association, district youth leaders, key stakeholders, and concerned youth actors across Grand Gedeh County.

‎The consultations, the Federation noted, are intended to gather facts, reduce tensions, and ensure that all parties involved are heard through what it described as a fair and professional process.

Moreover, the Federation announced plans to establish an independent investigation team tasked with examining all claims and counterclaims linked to the controversy. The team will also review financial records and communications, interview individuals connected to the matter, and provide findings and recommendations for appropriate action.

‎“The process will be transparent, professional, and guided by fairness and justice,” the statement said, adding that “no one will be condemned without evidence, and no one will be protected if found guilty of misconduct.”

‎FLY also called on youth leaders and residents of Grand Gedeh County to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, threats, insults, or divisive comments on social media, warning that such behavior could further undermine the unity of youth institutions in the county.

‎The Federation reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership among young people across Liberia, stressing that leadership must be built on trust, honesty, and accountability.
