Gbarnga City, Bong County |May 18, 2026 |A sad tragedy has shaken Chief Compound Community in Bong County after two children reportedly died in a fire linked to an alleged electrical problem involving the Jungle Energy Power (JEP) network.
The victims, identified as Clarence and Dennis, were said to be relatives and grandchildren of Sam Baryougah Elliott Sr.
Reports say the two boys died during the late-night fire while other family members managed to escape.
Speaking after the incident, Mr. Elliott described himself as “heartbroken, confused, and devastated” over the loss of the children.
Family members and community residents were left in shock as news of the tragedy spread across the county.
According to eyewitnesses, the problem allegedly started near the Pot Boiling Community area when transformer cables reportedly disconnected.
Residents believe the fault caused a sudden flow of high-voltage electricity through the main power line.
Community members said the electrical surge allegedly reached Mr. Elliott’s residence while the family was asleep.
Shortly after, a fire reportedly broke out and spread quickly through the house.
Residents explained that the fire entered different parts of the building, making escape difficult for the youngest children inside.
While several people escaped the burning house, Clarence and Dennis were unable to survive.
Mr. Elliott also revealed that two of his houses had reportedly experienced meter-related electrical problems before the incident.
He said he contacted a JEP staff member identified as Prince on May 16, 2025, to inspect and address the issue.
According to him, the technician reportedly carried out repair work before leaving later that evening.
Only hours afterward, the deadly fire occurred, destroying property and taking the lives of the two boys.
The deaths of Clarence and Dennis have brought sorrow to the entire community, with residents calling for a full investigation into the cause of the fire and the reported electrical fault.
