Monrovia, Liberia |May 18, 2026| Liberian biomedical scientist Dougbeh Chris Nyan has assured the public that no Ebola case has been detected in Liberia, while encouraging citizens to remain calm and continue following public health measures.
Dr. Nyan made the statement in response to growing public concern following recent Ebola outbreak reports in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
According to him, many Liberians remain worried because of the country’s painful experience during the 2014 Ebola crisis.
He stressed that Liberia must stay alert because movement between countries creates the possibility of cross-border transmission.
“Again to this date, you can rest assured that there is No Ebola detected in Liberia, but the country remains vigilant,” Dr. Nyan stated. “Be Calm, No Panic”
He explained that Liberia has strengthened its public health system over the years through experience gained from Ebola, COVID-19, and Mpox outbreaks.
Dr. Nyan praised the work of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, also known as NPHIL, saying the country now has skilled experts and improved outbreak response systems.
He emphasized the importance of accurate laboratory testing, strong border surveillance, and support for health workers monitoring travelers and possible disease outbreaks.
According to Dr. Nyan, regular hand washing, sanitizing, and early reporting of symptoms remain important public health measures even when there is no outbreak in the country.
He encouraged Liberians to seek information from trusted health experts and avoid spreading misinformation that could create unnecessary fear in communities.
Dr. Nyan also educated the public about Ebola symptoms, explaining that early signs may include fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting.
He noted that Ebola spreads through contact with infected body fluids and can become deadly if not treated quickly.
He further reminded the public that safe and effective Ebola vaccines exist and called for continued transparency, accountability, and cooperation in protecting public health across Liberia and the region.
