Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County |May 19, 2026 | The Administration of Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County is calling for urgent support to help care for a three-year-old child abandoned at birth and raised at the hospital for nearly three years.
Hospital officials in Zwedru said the institution is struggling to continue covering the child’s healthcare and daily living expenses because of limited resources.
The child, identified as Abraham Richard, was left at the hospital shortly after birth and has remained under the care of the facility ever since.
Hospital Administrator Thomas Q. Neewary explained that the hospital has done everything possible to keep the child healthy and safe despite financial challenges.

“We have done everything humanly possible to keep this child alive and cared for over the years, but the burden is becoming overwhelming,” Neewary said while appealing for assistance from humanitarian groups and private citizens.
As the new school year approaches, hospital authorities said they are also facing the challenge of preparing the child for school while continuing to manage his medical needs.
The child’s caretaker, Josephine Doe, said she stepped in to help because the child had no parental support or protection.
“I really felt sorry for the child because he was left completely without parental care and attention,” Doe explained.
She added that caring for the boy has been difficult because he is often sick and requires constant attention.
Residents in the community have expressed concern about the situation, saying the case reflects the growing hardship many vulnerable families are facing across Liberia.
Hospital authorities said they remain committed to supporting the child but warned that outside help is urgently needed to ensure Abraham Richard continues receiving healthcare, education, and proper care for the future.
