The Forestry Development Authority and the Civil Service Agency have completed a three-day training program aimed at improving accountability, record keeping, and service delivery in forest communities across Western Liberia.
The training was held from May 15 to 17, 2026, at the Forestry Training Institute Auditorium in Bomi County and brought together about 30 forestry workers from Region One operations.
Participants included park wardens, regional foresters, conservation wardens, extension officers, and forest rangers from the Commercial, Conservation, and Community departments.
Officials said the training came at an important time as communities and stakeholders continue to call for better transparency and stronger coordination in the management of Liberia’s forest resources.
For years, communities and journalists have raised concerns about weak documentation and poor reporting during forest supervision and enforcement activities in different parts of the country.
According to organizers, the new training is expected to improve workplace performance and strengthen systems for documentation, reporting, and communication with the public.
During the sessions, participants received lessons on the four key stages of the Performance Management System: Planning, Review, Performance Appraisal, and Management Performance Outcomes.
Facilitators also encouraged forestry workers to develop SMART performance objectives and improve record tracking, especially during enforcement activities in protected and community forest areas.
CSA representatives Julius and Edward said stronger performance systems will improve efficiency in Liberia’s forestry sector and help build public trust.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Region One Regional Forester Kollie Bonner thanked the organizers for what he described as a timely training.
He said better record keeping and stronger workplace performance will improve cooperation with communities, conservation partners, and the media while helping forestry workers respond more effectively to environmental challenges.
