Voinjama City, Lofa County |May 26, 2026|Lofa County University in Voinjama is set to benefit from a new 100kW Solar Photovoltaic Power System aimed at improving electricity access for students, staff, and the entire campus community.
The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) will serve as Owner’s Engineer for the project.
When completed, the solar project will provide clean, reliable, and sustainable electricity to support learning and daily operations at the university.
The project is expected to improve academic activities, administrative work, and student services.
According to a release from RREA, the agency will provide technical oversight, engineering supervision, and quality assurance during the implementation process.
The goal is to ensure the project meets all required standards and timelines.
The solar power initiative is also expected to create a better learning environment for students and staff by improving access to stable electricity.
Community members believe reliable power will help strengthen educational activities and institutional development in the county.
Officials say the project forms part of broader efforts to improve energy access across Lofa County.
It complements other ongoing energy programs, including the development of the Lofa County Mini-Grid Solar Power Plant.
The initiative reflects a coordinated approach to bringing electricity to communities and important public institutions.
Residents and education stakeholders see the project as a major step toward sustainable development in the region.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the solar project is expected to take place on the campus of Lofa County University in the coming days.
The event will officially mark the beginning of construction works.
RREA says the project demonstrates Liberia’s growing commitment to renewable energy and environmentally friendly development solutions.
The agency noted that expanding access to clean energy remains a national priority.
“RREA remains committed to accelerating access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy across Liberia,” the agency stated, while also appreciating the support of the Government of Liberia, the World Bank, and local stakeholders.
The project represents another important effort to improve renewable energy access in public institutions across the country.
