Monrovia-December 19, 2024-Grand Gedeh County electoral district 2 Representative Marie Johnson has embarked on an initiative to improve the infrastructure in Konobo District, specifically in the district’s capital city of Ziah.
The project, Representative Johnson said is part of a broader legislative effort funded by the Government of Liberia aimed at fostering community development.
The ongoing opening of streets and alleys in Ziah City according to her is transforming the landscape, positively impacting school campuses, public spaces, government facilities, and private residences.
Residents have expressed their enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its significance in improving accessibility and elevating the overall appearance of the district.
The initiative fosters a sense of pride within the community as they witness these developments.
Nevertheless, some community members have raised concerns about the project’s long-term sustainability, particularly with the rainy season approaching.
These concerns underline the importance of planning for maintenance and ongoing support.
For 2024, Liberia’s budget for legislative projects stands at $13.2 million, aimed at supporting decentralization and grassroots development. The allocations are as follows: each of the 73 representatives will receive $100,000 for district development, while senators will receive $150,000.
It is noteworthy that prior to the 2023 general elections, Representative Marie Johnson already initiated significant improvements in the community by opening streets, constructing culverts, and building bridges in Konobo District.
These efforts undoubtedly contributed to her successful election as the representative in 2023.
Ziah City serves as the capital of the Konobo Electoral District, home to just over 3,000 residents, individuals from Konobo, Glio, Twabo putu, and occasionally Glaro. Grand Gedeh County, located in eastern Liberia, comprises one of the country’s 15 counties, with Zwedru as its capital.
This infrastructure project represents a vital step towards enhancing community connectivity and empowering residents in Grand Gedeh County.
