Fish-Town City, River Gee County – [March 28, 2025] – Following report by the Liberia’s Rural Reporters News Network on the lack of safe drinking water at the Taith Memorial Elementary and Junior High School, Cllr. Kunkunyon Teh, one of the county’s eminent sons has restored the school’s only hand pump, which had been out of service for years.

The damaged handpump at the time…

The hand pump was officially repaired and turned over to the school administration and students on Thursday, March 27, 2025 after days of working on the hand pump with Cllr. Teh covering the full cost of repair.

This action of goodwill came after the RRNN did an online publication on March 24, 2025 with headline; “No Safe Drinking Water At Taith Public School”, the report which also highlighted the students’ endless struggle during school hours in search of safe drinking water; to the point of leaving the campus and moving in nearby communities to seek save drinking water had become unbearable to endure.

Cllr. Kunkunyon Teh (Grey suit), the funder of the handpump repairs with some citizens of River Gee County at an event.

The lack of save drinking water at the only government school in the town prior to this intervention, had posed serious embarrassment to the school authorities.

Upon seeing the report, Cllr. Teh quickly secured the funds necessary to restore the pump, ensuring clean drinking water for these Liberian students.

Front view of Taith Memorial Elementary & Junior High School-Looking quite forlorn and wanting.

However, school administration and students of Taith public school have expressed gratitude, with several students stating, “Water is life,” as they celebrated the return of safe drinking water to their school.
