Zorzor, Lofa County–Wednesday, April 09, 2025–Jubilation swept across Zorzor and Salayea Districts when the team carrying the trophy arrived at the border between Bong and Lofa Counties. The euphoria was ‘Lofaly” fantastic as residents trooped in mass to welcome the delegation.
The celebration which began in Beyan Town, Salayea District highlighted the county’s double championship in both football and basketball.
Part of the activities was the unveiling of a monument in Beyan Town, built in honor of the players and officials who contributed to the county’s historic win. The monument, which bears the names of all team members and officials, stands as a tribute to their achievement.
Former presidential candidate Dr. Clarence Moniba financed the construction of the monument. He expressed his commitment to continue to honor the county’s sports heroes. “Every time Lofa wins a trophy, I will build a monument in their honor,” Dr. Moniba said. Dr. Moniba’s aim is for future generations to remember the sacrifices that former players and officials made for the County Team.
“Years from now, generations should be able to look back and remember the sacrifices these players and officials made to bring pride to our county.”
Those who gathered at the St. Paul Bridge to cheer team got a glimpse of the two coveted trophies in Basketball and Football. The atmosphere was electric, with residents singing, dancing, and waving flags in celebration.
The Lofa County Sports Committee presented a certificate of appreciation to Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah in recognition of his support to the team. The award was handed over by Lofa County Senator Momo T. Cyrus. Senator Cyrus praised Representative Fallah’s dedication to the county’s success in the tournament.
“The effort you made was crucial to our victory,” Senator Cyrus said during the presentation. “Your support gave the team the morale and resources they needed to shine.”
Celebrations are expected to continue across Lofa, with a major event planned in Voinjama City in the coming days.
