Kolba City, Lofa County-Kolahun District, like all other districts in Lofa, on April 10, 2025, celebrated the arrival of the Lofa County’s Trophy in an elaborate but disappointing ceremony. The event marked presentations of traditional gifts, including kola nuts and chickens in appreciation of the team’s victory.

The warm reception also included cultural dance and singing as community members gathered to celebrate the achievement of the Lofa County Team.

During an indoor program, the Mayor of Kolahun District, Caroline M. Momo, expressed gratitude to the delegation and team for their accomplishments. In a fascinating but sentimental voice, Mayor Momo voiced concerns over the hasty nature of the celebrations in Kolahun, noting that the festivities should have extended into the following morning.

She lamented that Kolahun was merely a pass through for the team, stating, “It’s not good for Kolahun, which is one of the original districts, to be disregarded in this manner.”

The sentiments of the citizens were reechoed by the Youth Chairman, Junior Ndebeh. Youth Chair Ndebeh expressed deep disappointment over the brief stop of the delegation in Kolahun. He described Kolahun as a significant community in Lofa County and stressed the need for a better plan that would allow the team to spend meaningful time in the district, rather than just passing through on their way to Voinjama.

Despite the palpable disappointment, Senator Cyrus thanked the citizens of Kolahun for their warm welcome and assured them that such oversight would not be repeated in future events. He acknowledged the importance of engaging with all districts in Lofa County, expressing his commitment to fostering a stronger connection with the community moving forward.

The event highlighted both the pride and unity within Kolahun District and the broader Lofa County, while also bringing to light the need for inclusive celebration that honors all contributions to the team’s success.
