Harper, Maryland-Wednesday, May 21, 2025-In an effort to improve Health supervision and enhance rural health service delivery in Maryland County; Plan International Liberia has donated 20 brand new Yamaha motorbikes to the Maryland County Health Team.

During the turning-over ceremony which was attended by scores of Government Officials, Olastford S. Wiah, Director of the Community Health Services Division at the Ministry of Health, thanked Plan Liberia for the initiative, while underscoring long-time support from Plan Liberia over the years in boosting and contributing to the Health sector exactly with a specific focus in rural Liberia.

Wiah, who formally received the donation from Plan Liberia onward, presented the motorbikes to Maryland County Health Officer Dr. Siedoh Freeman.

For her part, Dr. Freeman expressed gratitude on behalf of the Maryland County Health Team while stating that the bikes would be used for their intended purpose. “On behalf of the Maryland County Health Team, we are grateful and want to say thank you to Plan International Liberia and the Community Health Department for giving us these 20 brand new motorbikes, as we intend to boost the sector and make significant progress; especially with our focus on rural parts of Maryland. These bikes will enhance our monitoring and outreach services.”

The motorbikes, according to the Plan, are specifically for distribution to Community Health Services Supervisors (CHSS) across the county. This will enable them to reach remote communities and monitor health facilities more effectively, thereby bridging gaps in healthcare access.

Also making remarks at the occasion was Maryland County Superintendent, Hon. Henry B. Cole, Chair of the County Health Board. Superintendent Cole lauded Plan International Liberia for fulfillment of its commitment. “Plan International has finally fulfilled her promise, and we must commend them for that,” Cole indicated. “I’m convinced that this level of support will build a better health system for our people.”

Beneficiaries of the donation highlighted the impact of the same, stating that it would significantly lower the challenges they face in accessing hard-to-reach areas. “This is a complete joy for me to receive the new motorbikes,” she said. “With this, we will do more to meet the expectations of our county.”

Meanwhile, Plan International Liberia’s donation underscores its continued commitment to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, particularly in underserved Counties like Maryland.
