River Gee County – Friday, June 6, 2025 – Jasper Sheriff Tweh, the County Agriculture Coordinator in River Gee, is promoting local gardening with the creation of an office garden that emphasizes sustainable practices and encourages community involvement in agriculture.
The garden not only improves the workplace atmosphere but also acts as a practical example of effective gardening methods for those in the agricultural sector.
Tweh shared that the office garden, established four months ago, includes an assortment of vegetables such as cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes, as well as plantains and pineapples sourced from River Gee County.
As the current growing season advances, he plans to diversify the garden by introducing additional vegetable species.
“My goal is to motivate others to start their own gardens, whether at home or in community spaces,” Tweh stated. “We aim to spark a chain reaction. If we can encourage even a handful of people to begin gardening, we can significantly improve our community’s well-being.”
The Agriculture Coordinator views his small garden as a means to inspire both colleagues and local residents to embrace gardening and sustainable practices. “It’s about showing that anyone can produce their own food, even in small areas,” he highlighted.
The garden recently marked its first harvest, becoming a focal point for community discussions.
Additionally, the County Agriculture Coordinator is planning to host community forums and volunteer days, inviting local residents to join in on the gardening efforts.
He believes that the forum will foster collaboration and educate participants on sustainable agriculture and the importance of producing food locally.
Through the office garden, the Agriculture Coordinator demonstrates the significance of leading by example.
His commitment to sustainable practices and willingness to share knowledge cultivates a culture of sustainability and awareness within the community.
As the garden continues to thrive, it acts as a constant reminder of the essential link between our food sources and the environment.
