Bopolu City, Gbarpolu —Wednesday, June 25, 2025-The Ministry of Health, in partnership with GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, officially launched Liberia’s celebration of African Vaccination Week 2025 with a nationwide campaign aimed at increasing immunization coverage across the country, including Gbarpolu County.
Under the theme, “Immunization for all is humanly possible,” the campaign seeks to raise awareness that every child and community deserves protection from preventable diseases.
Mrs. Mariama Konneh of Bopolu shared her heartfelt message: “I always take my children for vaccines because I know it keeps them safe.” She emphasized, “Vaccines protect them from serious illnesses. I encourage other parents to do the same. It’s our responsibility to keep our children healthy.”
Kpanah Flomo echoed her sentiments, stating, “Vaccination is very important. It helps our children grow strong and prevents many diseases. I want all parents to bring their children to get vaccinated without fear. It’s for their future and our community’s health.”
The campaign’s momentum was further boosted by the leadership of the Gbarpolu County Health Officer, Dr. Kezelebah S. Goyah. On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, she led an impactful vaccination drive at Bopolu Central High School, targeting girl children under nine years old.
Before administering the vaccines, Dr. Goyah addressed the students, encouraging trust and confidence: “We have come to talk to you today—to let you know that vaccines are good. It is good for children and good for people. So, anytime you hear about vaccines, you should take it. Don’t be afraid.” Her reassuring words aimed to dispel fears and motivate full participation in immunization efforts.
The team also visited Emirates Hospital, where they vaccinated girl children, emphasizing the importance of protecting all children from preventable diseases.
Since its inception by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2003, African Vaccination Week has served as a vital platform to mobilize communities, dispel misconceptions, and promote vaccines’ critical role in reducing child mortality and strengthening health systems.
The 2025 campaign’s slogan, “Vaccinated communities, healthy communities,” underscores how collective immunization efforts lead to healthier individuals and resilient, productive societies.
This ongoing campaign highlights that immunization not only saves lives and reduces healthcare costs but also ensures a future where every child can grow, learn, and thrive free from preventable illnesses.
