The Webbo Rural Teacher Training Institute (WRTTI), in Konowroken, Webbo Statutory District, River Gee County, recently graduated 49 teachers, who obtained ‘C’ Certificate each.

The new graduates, drawn from Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Maryland, Grand Kru, and River Gee Counties, are expected to strengthen the educational workforce across Liberia’s southeastern region.

The graduation ceremony was graced by officials of the Ministry of Education, educational stakeholders, local leaders, faculty, and family members, and friends of the graduates.

In his welcoming address, Mr. Antonio F. Zayzay, Director of WRTTI, expressed appreciation to the Government of Liberia (GoL), the Ministry of Education, and international partners, for their steadfast commitment to building the capacity of teachers, as well as boosting academic progress in Liberia’s rural regions.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Jerry C. Bu-ao, Dean of the Dr. Elizabeth Davis-Russell College of Education at William V.S. Tubman University, commended the graduates for their dedication to the teaching profession, urging that they remain open to growth opportunities and to serve as agents of change in their communities.

Dr. Bu-ao asserted that the GoL has prioritized education as a critical pillar of national development, indicating that government continues to invest significantly in teachers’ training and the country’s school system.

He encouraged high school graduates in southeastern Liberia to enroll at WRTTI, as a way of strengthening teaching profession locally, and ensuring the sustainability of quality education in the country’s southeastern region.

Assistant Minister for Instruction at the Ministry of Education, Clifford Konah, admonished the newly graduated teachers to extend their services to both public and private institutions.

He informed the graduates that the Education Ministry is actively working to address payroll constraints and enhance the overall working conditions for teachers nationwide.
