BOPOLU CITY, Gbarpolu—On the eve of Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebration, July 26, Gbarpolu Electoral District #1 Representative Zinnah Norman made a heartfelt gesture by distributing over 50 bags of 25 kg rice and LD$50,000 to workers at the Bopolu City Corporation and some elderly residents within Bopolu City.

‎The current district representative, a former Mayor of Bopolu City, explained his decision to give back to the community where he once served. “I decided to visit my former workplace and celebrate the 26th by giving back because Bopolu City Corporation played a significant role in my journey,” Norman stated. “This is my way of remembering and appreciating the hardworking volunteers and employees who helped shape my path.”

‎‎Twenty-eight workers received a bag of rice and LD$1,000 each, as a token of gratitude. Norman added, “Giving back on days like this is a tradition I cherish, and I will continue to support my community because they have been part of my success.”

‎Speaking on behalf of the Lawmaker’s team, former Assistant Minister of Sports James Toe praised the volunteers at the City Corporation.

‎‎“This gift is a reflection of Representative Norman’s appreciation for those who worked with him. His leadership is rooted in remembering the people who helped him rise,” Toe said. “We encourage everyone to keep working together to move Bopolu in the right direction, especially in terms of cleanliness.”

‎Representing the Bopolu City Corporation, Secretary Zinnah Korvah, on behalf of the City Council, Mayor Siah Kieh Victor, and staff, expressed appreciation for the support.

‎‎“The rice and cash are consistent with the tradition of our former Mayor and now District Representative Norman, who has always believed in giving back,” he said. “We urge him to continue his good work for the people.”

    ‎Historical and National Significance:

‎July 26 marks Liberia’s Independence Day, celebrated annually to commemorate the country’s declaration of independence from the American Colonization Society in 1847.

‎‎This year, Liberia marks its 178th year of sovereignty, reflecting a rich history of resilience and nation-building.

‎The celebration underscores Liberia’s journey towards progress and unity, inspiring hope for a prosperous future.
