Tappita, Nimba County – August 8, 2025 – In a landmark development for education and workforce empowerment in Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially signed into law the bill establishing the Tappita Vocational Training Institute. The new institution, located in Tappita City, Lower Nimba County, is expected to provide critical technical and vocational education to thousands of young Liberians.
The announcement was made by Hon. Dorwohn Twain Gleekia, Representative of Electoral District #6, who hailed the decision as a transformative milestone for his constituency and the broader Nimba region.
“With immense gratitude and joy, I bring you great news,” Rep. Gleekia said. “This moment is not only a personal milestone for me but a generational breakthrough for our district and region.”
The law was earlier passed by both houses of the National Legislature, and received widespread bipartisan support. Rep. Gleekia extended thanks to his colleagues in the House of Representatives, the Liberian Senate, and particularly to President Boakai for what he called a “commendable commitment to grassroots development.”
According to Gleekia, the institute will offer practical, market-driven skills in areas such as carpentry, electricity, auto mechanics, tailoring, masonry, information technology, and entrepreneurship. The goal, he emphasized, is to provide local youth and community members with the tools needed to escape poverty and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“This institute is for the people of Tappita and beyond,” he said. “It belongs to the future bricklayers, electricians, carpenters, seamstresses, mechanics, IT technicians, and entrepreneurs who will soon have a home of learning right here.”
The establishment of the Tappita Vocational Training Institute marks a significant step toward Liberia’s national goals for education reform, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic growth. Rep. Gleekia assured constituents of his continued commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the Act and the operationalization of the institute.
“This is a victory for our youth, a win for our future, and a testament to what visionary leadership can accomplish,” he concluded.
