River Gee County – Tuesday, August 19, 2025-Matthew Wesseh, Chairman of the River Gee Sub-Association of the Liberia Football Association, has announced his resignation, attributing it to personal responsibilities cum commitments.

His unexpected decision has surprised many fans and stakeholders and signifies a crucial shift in the development of local football in River Gee County.

In a statement shared with our news team, Wesseh explained that personal obligations have increasingly interfered with his ability to fulfill his duties as Chairman of the Sub-Association of River Gee.

He said his choice to step down is a necessary measure to focus on his personal responsibilities, which have made it difficult for him to allocate the requisite time and effort to lead the Association effectively.

Wesseh has been a key figure in the River Gee sports community during his tenure. His leadership was instrumental in promoting grassroots football growth, developing local talents, and encouraging community engagement in the sport.

Under his direction, the River Gee Sub-Association experienced enhanced involvement from youth and local residents, as well as advancements in football infrastructure and organizational practices.

Wesseh’s commitment and proactive leadership significantly raised the profile of football in the county, earning him respect from sports enthusiasts and community members alike.

In his communication, Wesseh expressed heartfelt gratitude to the local sports fans and supporters for their unwavering backing over the years.

He thanked all stakeholders who have played varying roles in the advancement of football in River Gee and wished them ongoing success in their future endeavors.

Wesseh reaffirmed his dedication to supporting local football initiatives in any capacity, even after his departure from formal leadership.

An interim leadership structure will be set up to manage operations while the association seeks a qualified and experienced candidate to take over the Chairman position.

The LFA is committed to conducting an open and thorough selection process to appoint a new leader who can guide the Sub-Association towards ongoing growth and success.

The resignation highlights the ever-changing landscape of sports governance at the local level and underscores the critical need for stable leadership in cultivating talent and fostering community engagement through football.

Fans, players, and stakeholders eagerly anticipate a smooth transition and renewed efforts to promote football in River Gee County.
