Grand Kru County, Liberia –Wednesday August 20, 2025 – The Police Authority of Grand Kru County through its County Commander ACP Clement Barllat has disclosed a robust enforcement strategy regarding the government’s moratorium on the 75km road as the rainy season begins.
The moratorium, issued by the country’s Infrastructure Agency, officially took effect on July 31, 2025, and it is set to last up to October 15, 2025, in an effort to protect vulnerable roadways from excessive wear and tear that occurs during heavy pour of rain nationwide.
Specifically, the moratorium prohibits the movement of heavily-loaded vehicles along several primary highways, including the 75-kilometer Pleebo – Barclayville Corridor.
Commander Barllat emphasized the importance of adhering to the moratorium to ensure the safety and integrity of the road during the challenging weather condition.
He maintained that effective Monday, August 18, 2025; the moratorium aims to restrict heavy-loaded trucks from traversing the 75km stretch of road which has shown signs of degradation due to heavy rains, noting that the LNP authorities are concerned that continued use by these vehicles can lead to further deterioration of the already fragile infrastructure; posing risks to both drivers and pedestrians alike.
Commander Barllat called upon all citizens, particularly drivers of heavy-loaded trucks, to comply with the new regulations or face strict legal repercussions. “The law is clear, and we will not hesitate to enforce it. The safety of our community and the preservation of this key transportation route is our top priority,” he stated.
He highlighted the need for collective responsibility among relevant stakeholders and urged citizens to report any violations of the moratorium. “We cannot do this alone; we need the cooperation of everyone. If you see trucks violating the moratorium, please inform the police. It’s in the interest of everyone’s safety,” he added.
Barllat reassured the public that the police will act with fairness and transparency while enforcing the moratorium indicating that the police detachment has increased its presence along the 75km road, set up checkpoints to monitor and regulate the flow of traffic.
Commander Barllat reiterated the message, stating, “Together, we can protect our roads and our community. Let us work hand in hand to make Grand Kru a safer place for everyone.”
