Monrovia, Liberia-Friday, August 22, 2025- A month-long Holiday Tech Camp (HTC) hosted by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) at the University of Liberia (UL) has climaxed with about 53 kids completing the program.

The camp, held at the UL-based University Innovation Pod (UniPod) at Lake View in Fendall, Montserrado County, was designed for children aged 7-16 from primary, elementary, and secondary schools.

Empowering the Next Generation of Tech Innovators, the Holiday Tech Camp aimed to equip participants with essential digital skills, including Coding and programming, the foundation of technology, Designing and building robots, drone technology, virtual reality, Exploring immersive digital environments, Cyber safety; sustainability and Climate tech among others.

UL President Prof. Dr. Layli Maparyan expressed hope that the camp would be a transformational moment in the kids’ lives. “Some of you came in with very little experience with computers and tech. And now you are leaving knowing so much about it with so much capability to lead Liberia in the tech sector,” she said.

UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan addresses the forum while others look-on.

“If you become an entrepreneur, it becomes your work. You make money, and you become a job creator. And when you become a job creator, Liberia prospers,” – Prof. Dr. Layli Maparyan

Meanwhile, UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia, thanked Dr. Maparyan for the opportunity given through the partnership. “We are thinking about big things for the University of Liberia, but also for Liberia,” he said.

“We are thinking about big things for the University of Liberia, but also for Liberia,” – Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia- “This is the smallest thing that we are aiming to do with the University of Liberia, and in the coming weeks, people will see what is in the making. We are having big ideas,” – Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia

The Holiday Tech Camp is a step towards empowering the next generation of Liberian tech innovators. With the support of the UNDP and UL, the program aims to expand to other counties, providing more opportunities for young Liberians to develop their digital skills and contribute to the country’s development.

The successful completion of the Holiday Tech Camp is a testament to the power of partnership and collaboration in promoting digital skills and innovation in Liberia.
