Kundey, Bomi County- September 2, 2025-All is now set for the long-awaited construction of a US $2 million state-of-the-art football pitch in Kundey, Bomi County, as part of a broader package of infrastructure projects officially captured in the 2025 County Development Budget.

In an interview, Bomi County Development Officer Hon. Alfred Zinnah confirmed that several projects including a football field, housing units, and a modern recreation park have been awarded to contractors through a competitive bidding process, ensuring transparency and strict compliance with government procurement laws.

    Football Field Tops the Agenda

Hon. Zinnah described the sports pitch as a “flagship investment” for Bomi County youth and sports development. While the total cost of the project is estimated at US $2 million, the initial allocation for the 2025 fiscal year is US $250,000, with additional funding expected in subsequent budget cycles.

“This football pitch is more than just a sports facility; it is an investment in the youth of Bomi County,” Zinnah emphasized. “By giving young people a modern and safe venue to develop their talents; we are also fostering discipline, community pride, and economic opportunities.”

In addition to the football field, Hon. Zinnah revealed that the construction of new housing units and a modern recreation park have been approved for groundbreaking in October 2025. These facilities are designed to improve living standards, create safer public spaces, and provide structured venues for family and community activities.

“These projects represent a holistic approach to development,” Zinnah explained. “We are not only building infrastructure but also building stronger communities.”

    Community Spirit Driving Development

Hon. Zinnah extended heartfelt gratitude to the people of Koundy Community, who have provided thirty acres of land for the football field project at no cost.

“The generosity of the people of Koundy is a powerful statement of partnership,” he said. “It shows that development succeeds when citizens and local authorities work hand in hand. This land donation will benefit the entire county, not just one community.”

Residents welcomed the announcement with optimism.
“We have been waiting for real development in Bomi County,” said Mary Kollie, a youth leader in Kundey. “This football field will give our young people hope and keep many of them away from drugs and crime.”

Another resident, Joseph Kamara, a local farmer, added: “We gave the land because we believe this project will change lives. When government brings development to your doorstep, it is only fair to play your part as a community.”

    A Model for County-Level Growth

Local analysts say these projects especially when implemented transparently could serve as a model for county-level development nationwide, addressing both youth empowerment and community wellbeing.

The construction work is expected to begin in October 2025, with preliminary mobilization of contractors scheduled in the coming months. Once completed, the sports pitch and accompanying facilities are projected to stimulate economic activity, attract regional tournaments, and enhance social cohesion within Bomi County.

Hon. Zinnah closed with a message to the youth:

“This is your project. When it is completed, protect it, use it responsibly, and take pride in it. Development works best when the people it is meant to serve take ownership.”
