Bo Waterside, Grand Cape Mount, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 — Liberia’s fight against drug trafficking recorded a major success at the Bo Waterside port of entry when authorities intercepted a shipment of heroin concealed within a vehicle arriving from neighboring Sierra Leone.

The bust, involving four suspects, reflects the country’s heightened vigilance in tackling the illegal drug trade and safeguarding public health.

The vehicle, a blue Nissan Premier with license plate A-12021, was searched upon entry, revealing approximately 841 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth over $37,845.00 USD.

The suspects have been identified as Alonso Teah, a 25-year-old Liberian; Earl Xawirer, a 36-year-old Sierra Leonean; Samuel R. Gray, a 27-year-old Sierra Leonean; and the vehicle’s driver, Matthew Sherman, a 25-year-old Liberian. They are currently undergoing investigation.

The seizure comes as Liberia ramps up its national anti-drug efforts in preparation for upcoming events aimed at promoting healthy and drug-free communities.

In collaboration with ECOWAS and the Ministry of Health, the Liberian government continues to raise awareness about the dangers of harmful substances while advocating for a drug-free Liberia.

Authorities emphasized the role of regional cooperation and citizen involvement in combating drug trafficking. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities to contribute to a safer, healthier nation.
