Monrovia, Liberia |May 31, 2026 |A family in Monrovia is calling for urgent medical support and a full investigation after a 3-month-old baby reportedly suffered severe damage to a hand and arm following treatment at a local hospital.

According to the family, the child was taken to James Davis Hospital in healthy condition for medical care before complications reportedly developed after treatment.

Relatives said the baby’s hand and arm later became badly swollen and discolored, raising serious concern about the child’s condition.

Family members believe the injury may have been linked to an injection or IV treatment administered at the hospital.

They claimed the condition worsened over time despite efforts to seek help.

The mother and child were later transferred to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia for further treatment and medical evaluation.

According to information gathered by Rural Reporters News Network, doctors have now agreed that the baby’s damaged hand may need to be amputated.

The procedure is expected to take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at JFK Medical Center.

The situation has sparked emotional reactions from community members and supporters, many of whom are expressing sympathy and prayers for the child and family.

Community advocates are calling for urgent specialist care and additional medical support to improve the baby’s chances of recovery and future wellbeing.

Supporters are also demanding an independent investigation into the reported incident to determine whether medical negligence may have occurred during treatment.

Many Liberians are now urging health authorities to ensure transparency, accountability, and improved patient safety while providing continued care and support for the affected child and family.
