    Commemorating 22 Years of Peace: A Call to Action for Sustainable Development

    Monrovia, Liberia -Sunday, August 24, 2025- The Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation at the University of Liberia recently commemorated the 22nd Anniversary of the Accra Comprehensive Peace Accord (ACPA), a historic agreement that brought an end to Liberia’s 14-year civil war.

    The event was a platform for solutions, featuring expert presentations, panel discussions, and working groups on Disarmament, Demobilization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DDRR).

    The gathering united ambassadors, ministers, commissioners, civil society, academics, youth, media, and INGOs, all working towards a common goal: “Never Again.”

    The event provided a space for shared reflections on peace gains and gaps, dialogue on reconciliation and healing, and the drafting of actionable policy recommendations for sustainable peace.

    Participants reflected on the progress made in maintaining peace and identified areas that require improvement. The event provided a platform for dialogue on reconciliation and healing, emphasizing the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict as well the drafting of Actionable policy recommendations aims to strengthening peacebuilding and reconciliation in Liberia.

    The commemoration served as a reminder that peace is not automatic but rather built every day. As Liberians, we all have a role in safeguarding the hard-won peace and ensuring that justice, reconciliation, and national healing move from words to action. The event concluded with a recommitment to building a peaceful, united, and inclusive Liberia.

    The outcomes of this commemoration will be submitted to government, civil society, and international partners to inform policy decisions and strengthen peacebuilding efforts in Liberia.

    By working together, we can ensure that the gains of peace are sustained and that Liberia continues on a path of sustainable development and development.
