River Gee County – Monday, April 28, 2025 – A significant milestone was witnessed in River Gee County as the ceremonial groundbreaking for Gbeapo Kanweaken first-ever modern city hall was held.

The project is expected to improve administrative operations and offer residents a centralized point for accessing local city government services.

River Gee Senator Jonathon Boyecharles Sogbie breaks ground as other local officials and residents look-on.

Located in the bustling commercial area of Gbeapo Kanweaken, the new city hall when completed will modernize local governance and provide enhanced facilities for administrative tasks.

The ceremony saw participation from River Gee local government, community elders, youth and women’s groups, along with various members of the community.

Speeches delivered during the event highlighted the vital role of community infrastructure and the importance of citizen involvement.

River Gee County Senator, Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie underscored the critical need for a city hall, stating that a central administrative facility is essential for any growing commercial city.

He described the initiative as an integral aspect of a broader development strategy for River Gee.

“Constructing a city hall for our commercial city is not just important; it is long overdue,” Senator Sogbie stated. “This project represents our commitment to fostering substantial growth in River Gee County.”

Senator Sogbie further remarked that the Kanweaken city hall would stand as a representation of the Gbeapo Statutory district’s administrative progress and urban advancement.

He also called on local leaders and community members to support the contractors and ensure that the project remains on schedule. “Collaboration and unity are crucial for timely completion,” he urged.

Once completed, the hall will house various offices, including those dedicated to local governance, public services, and community gatherings.

The construction has been assigned to Real Estate Builders, a local firm, and is projected to take 6 months to complete.

The over US$200,000.00 city hall project has been secured by River Gee County Senator Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie, in collaboration with local government, with the goal of advancing infrastructure development in the region.

Also speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, River Gee County Superintendent Mike Swengbe shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This hall will not merely be a structure; it will represent progress and promises made by this government to improve services to the community. We envision a place where residents can easily access government services and interact with their leaders.” He concluded.

The county local leadership has encouraged the community to stay involved throughout the construction process, emphasizing the potential for the space to become a vibrant community center.

Additionally, Gbeapo Kanweaken City Mayor Joyce Chea expressed her gratitude to Senator Sogbie, noting that previous city administrations struggled without a dedicated City Hall.

The facility is also designed to be more accessible, with features to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Envisioning the Future of River Gee

The construction of the city hall is poised to be a significant advancement in building more inclusive and accessible local government.
