A four-door taxi commuting passengers from Montserrado to Lofa, was early Friday morning gutted by fire on the Voinjama-Kolahun Road, leaving it burn to ashes. The incident took place early Friday morning while the vehicle was descending the Kambolahun, near Kolahun.

Eyewitness said six passengers were onboard the vehicle which was traveling to Kolahun from Monrovia. No human casualty is reported so far. But all materials belonging to the passengers, including goods got damaged by the fire.

“We were in the car and later we observed that the car was smoking with heavy dark smoke, so the driver parked the car and asked everyone to come down, and we all came down from the car and left all our goods and other belonging in the car and thinking what next the driver could do”, passengers lamented.

The passenger narrated that upon disembarking from the car, the driver decided to get water from a nearby creek to extinguish the fire. Just within that moment, the passengers said the car blazed into heavy flames while the driver was out looking for water. “Because of the heavy fire, we just stood by to watch the car burnt with our belongings”, said one passenger who appeared disappointed, adding, “everything burned to dust before the driver could come”

The driver was unable to speak to journalists due to continuous crying. The Federation of Road Transport Union in Kolba City, Kolahun District, and the Liberia National Police have taken charge of the situation with the aim to establish the cause of the fire.
