Community Solidarity: Grand Gedeh Mandingo Association Launches Major Zwedru Clean-Up Ahead of Peace Ceremony

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County| Dec. 13, 2025 |The Grand Gedeh County Mandingo Association (GGMA) mobilized a significant cross-section of the community yesterday, Thursday, December 11, 2025, for a massive clean-up campaign in Zwedru City.

This collaborative effort serves as the official curtain-raiser for the association’s upcoming Sacrificial Event, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, December 13.

Event Underscores Decades-Long Unity Goal

The GGMA, an organization with a history spanning approximately four decades, was established with the core mission of fostering unity and harmony among all Grand Gedeians, regardless of their religious affiliation.

The upcoming Sacrificial Event is structured as a comprehensive initiative for community well-being and reconciliation. It comprises three key components:

The Clean-Up Campaign (held today);

A Prayer Service (the main sacrificial ceremony); and

A Football Tournament (promoting youth engagement and fellowship.

Yesterday clean-up drive saw an impressive turnout, uniting members of the Mandingo community, other groupings, local youth, elders, and general community dwellers.

The participation of diverse groups highlights the association’s success in promoting its non-sectarian objective of community cooperation.

Ambassador Sylla Extends Diplomatic Appreciation

The event received a high-profile boost with the presence and participation of His Excellency Ali Sylla, Liberia’s Ambassador to Senegal.

Speaking during the clean-up activities, Ambassador Sylla expressed his profound appreciation for the level of cooperation and collaboration demonstrated by the citizens.

“I’m very excited to be a part of this great event for the first time in Zwedru,” Ambassador Sylla stated.

He further encouraged everyone present to remain engaged and supportive of the initiative, noting that such community-led efforts are essential for national healing and progress.

The Sacrificial Event aims to go beyond religious observance, positioning itself as a major step towards healing past wounds and reinforcing the communal bonds of one of Liberia’s critically important southeastern counties.
