Grand Kru County, Barclayville City –Sunday, March 23, 2025 – Early Friday morning, March 21, 2025, hundreds of citizens, including a significant number of women, gathered in front of the Grand Kru County Superintendent’s office at the Administrative Building in Barclayville to present a petition to the government of Liberia.
The group, identifying themselves as ‘Concerned Citizens,’ expressed their demands for total justice, transparency, and accountability in governance amid the ongoing impasse among lawmakers at the Capitol Building.

The petition comes at a time of heightened political tension in the country, as lawmakers grapple with internal conflicts that have led to a stalemate in legislative processes.
The citizens, carrying placards and chanting slogans, called upon the government to address their grievances and ensure that the political situation is resolved in a manner that upholds democratic principles.
Emmanuel Nyanti, one of the organizers of the protest, who spoke on behalf of the group, expressed their unwavering support for embattled Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa. “We stand here today to voice our concerns not just for our county, but for all Liberians. We urge the Speaker not to resign, as we believe that he has the capacity to lead us through this tough time,” he stated.

The citizens believe that Koffa’s resignation would exacerbate the current political dysfunction and hinder progress in governance.
The petition emphasized the importance of justice and accountability, urging lawmakers to prioritize the needs of the citizens over personal interests. “Our country deserves leaders who are accountable to the people. We want a government that listens to us and works for us,” another participant shared passionately during the petitioning exercise.
They also highlighted issues such as corruption, lack of transparency in government dealings, and the urgent need for legislative reforms to promote good governance.
As the sun rose over the picturesque landscape of Grand Kru County, the message from the ‘Concerned Citizens’ resonated through the air.

The diverse group of individuals, representing various walks of life, united in their demand for a responsive government that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens.
The call for action from the citizens reflects a growing sentiment in Liberia where ordinary citizens are increasingly mobilizing to demand accountability from their leaders.
The peaceful demonstration serves as a reminder of the essential role that citizen engagement plays in a democracy, particularly in challenging times of political uncertainty.
As the petition is submitted to the Grand Kru County Superintendent’s office, it remains to be seen how government officials will respond to the citizens’ demands.
The unfolding situation at the Capitol Building continues to attract attention, and many hope that the voices of the concerned citizens will spur much-needed action towards healing and progress in Liberia’s governance.
The event concluded with a march within Barclayville, further emphasizing unity and the collective aspirations of citizens for a better and more accountable political system.
