Bopolu City, Sunday, September 14, 2025 — Senator Botoe Kanneh of Gbarpolu County outlined a broad slate of completed and ongoing development projects across the county during the Monday, September 8, 2025 edition of The Daily Talk on Voice of Gbarpolu.
Senator Botoe Kanneh has been a member of the Liberian Senate since 2020, with her term set to expire in 2029. She chairs the Gender, Women, Children & Social Protection Committee at the Liberian Senate. As an independent candidate, she won the Senate seat after a Supreme Court ruling dismissed a challenge to her victory.
In her induction speech, Senator Kanneh requested policy decisions on the country’s forestry sector, highlighting the importance of improving policies as part of her agenda.
However, in a recent interview, she focused on her development initiatives across Gbarpolu County.
Despite not receiving a budget from the past government, Senator Kanneh reported working on various projects. She provided updates on her initiatives during the September 8, 2025 edition of The Daily Talk on Voice of Gbarpolu.
Completed and Ongoing Projects
1) Guest House in Gbaryama Town: Construction began with personal funds and is now nearing completion with the aid of legislative funds
2) Ekkie Hill Guest House: 95% complete; finishing touches and handover to the community pending.
3) Belekpalamu School: 80% complete
4) Mubilita School: 85% complete
5) Smith Town Market: Approximately 98% complete; only 2% remaining
6) Varmah Town Palava Hut: 100% complete
7) Sando Village Palava Hut: 98% complete
8) Small Bong Mines Guest House: Under construction
9) Gbarquousta Palava Hut: Construction halted due to issues; plans to rebuild announced
10) Kpayeaquelleh Maternity Waiting Home: Nearly at roof level
Other Initiatives
11) Starlink service provided to Gomu in Guo Nwolailai District
12) Starlink internet service provided to Yenkeh towns in Guo Nwolailai District
13) Special Legislative Support Project — Belle Fassama Market Project
Status: Construction at 90% complete
Project cost: USD 108,000.00
Funds reported: USD 67,000 from the 2024 National Budget; plus USD 22,000 and an undisclosed amount in Liberian Dollars (LD) from the 2025 National Budget.
Note: Some of the funds cited above are being used to complete the Guest House in Gbaryama Town and the Smith Town Market project, as announced by the Senator on the radio talk show.
Outlook
Senator Kanneh indicated that a larger portion of funds would be directed toward the Fassama Market project, with expectations of additional legislative funds during the dry season to accelerate completion.
Certification on the Bopolu City Project
The Bopolu City project, originally described as a vocational school, was halted after the government pledged to construct a modern vocational school in Bopolu City.
In fact, Senator Kanneh stated that the Bopolu City project is no longer categorized as a Legislative or Vocational School project.
She however pledged to complete the Bopolu City Construction project and described this as a meaningful surprise for the people of Gbarpolu.
