Monrovia, Liberia | January 7, 2026 |The River Gee County Sports Steering Committee has taken a decisive stand by formally submitting a protest to the Ministry of Youth and Sports against Grand Cape Mount County during the ongoing National County Sports Meet.
The protest, officially filed through a formal communication reflects River Gee County’s firm commitment to discipline, transparency, and strict compliance with the rules governing Liberia’s premier inter-county sporting competition.
According to the River Gee County Sports Steering Committee, the protest stems from alleged violations committed by Grand Cape Mount County during the tournament.
Chief among the concerns is the reported use of a goalkeeper who had earlier received a direct red card in Grand Cape Mount’s final group-stage match against Lofa County.
River Gee County maintains that allowing such a player to participate violates tournament regulations and undermines the fundamental principles of fair competition.
Additionally, the protest raises disciplinary questions regarding two Grand Cape Mount players who reportedly accumulated yellow cards in successive matches.
River Gee believes these infractions warrant careful scrutiny and proper interpretation by tournament authorities to ensure that the rules are applied consistently and without favoritism.
Despite the unfolding off-field developments, officials say the atmosphere within the River Gee camp remains calm, focused, and resolute.
The County Sports Steering Committee has expressed full confidence in the Ministry of Youth and Sports to address the matter fairly, transparently, and expeditiously, in line with its mandate to uphold justice and protect the integrity of the competition.
The committee has also appealed to supporters, well-wishers, and sympathizers of River Gee County to remain peaceful, united, and disciplined throughout the process.
Officials emphasized that true sporting excellence is not measured solely by goals and victories, but also by respect for due process, adherence to rules, and exemplary sportsmanship.
As the situation continues to unfold, one message remains clear: the pursuit of excellence extends beyond the playing field. While River Gee County competes with passion, courage, and determination on the pitch, it remains equally committed off the field to unity, discipline, and an unwavering belief in fairness.
