Voinjama City, Lofa County-August 18, 2025-The National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), with the backing of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, on Monday, August 18, 2025, officially launched a multi-stakeholder consultation in Lofa County to support the formulation of Liberia’s National Carbon Policy and Law.
The consultation aims to raise awareness and foster inclusive dialogue on the development of a national framework for carbon governance. It brought together representatives from the Civil Society Council, the disabled community, the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as local community members.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Elijah Whapoe, National Coordinator of the NCCS/EPA, explained that the consultation process will lead to the drafting and review of the policy. Once finalized, it will be signed into law to guide the carbon market in Liberia.
Participants welcomed the initiative. In separate remarks, citizens commended the team for engaging local voices in the process.
Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavela Massaquoi pledged his support to the exercise and encouraged residents to provide constructive policy recommendations that safeguard communities from future harm.
