MONROVIA,LIBERIA | January 10, 2026 | Government in collaboration with the Consumer Affairs Department of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority has launched a bold initiative to protect Liberia’s children from online predators, building on the momentum of its successful engagement with the Group of ’77 Disabled Community Gathering in 2025.

Speaking at the department’s first in-house meeting for 2026, Consumer Manager Lekepele Nyamalon outlined the plans to safeguard children in the digital space.

This move aligns with the government’s broader commitment to prioritizing children’s welfare, as emphasized by Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, who stated that children are central to Liberia’s vision for prosperity.

The initiative according to the LTA’s Consumer Manager is part of government’s efforts to address child vulnerability, including abuse, neglect, exploitation, and preventable childhood diseases.

For his part, Frederick S. Cooper, Deputy Minister stressed that protecting children is a top national priority, with ongoing initiatives aimed at improving access to healthcare, education, and strengthening child protection mechanisms.

The Government and  the Consumer Affairs Department’s focus on online safety comes as Liberia works to implement its ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which includes safeguarding and advancing children’s well-being.

The government has also launched a National Student Handbook to define students’ rights and responsibilities, addressing issues like corporal punishment and online safety.

With this move, it is clear that the Government is stepping up efforts to protect Liberia’s children from online predators by educating children and parents about online risks and safety measures, partnering with schools to promote digital literacy and online safety, stablishing a system for reporting suspected online exploitation, as well working with law enforcement agencies to address online crimes

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is also promoting digital safety through initiatives like the Mini Summit on Online Safety and Consumer Protection, targeting students across the country.
