    Grand Gedeh High Schools Clash in Back-to-School Debate

    Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County-Tuesday, October 1,2025- A two-day Inter High School Debate competition, aimed at promoting academic excellence as students return to school, kicked-off on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Zwedru.

    The event, an initiative of the Grand Gedeh Students Union (GGSU), an auxiliary of the Liberia National Students Union (LINSU); is featuring debaters from ten high schools in Zwedru city.

    Funding and Participation

    The debate is being generously funded by BRAC Liberia and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

    The opening session drew a significant crowd, including debaters, coaches, adjudicators, and the County Education Officer (CEO) of Grand Gedeh County.

    Officials Urge Focus and Participation

    The Manager of BRAC Liberia, speaking at the opening ceremony, expressed appreciation for the large turnout and encouraged participants to remain focus. He announced that BRAC Liberia is planning “more programs that will benefit the student community” in the future.

    Also making remarks, Grand Gedeh County Education Officer, Mr. Elijah Freeman, urged all schools to “take advantage of educational programs” like the debate. Mr. Freeman took the opportunity to applaud BRAC Liberia and UNFPA for their essential financial support in making the event possible.

    The competition is expected to continue through Tuesday, providing a platform for students to sharpen their critical thinking and public speaking skills.
