Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh –Tuesday, October 1, 2025- The Liberia National Police (LNP) in Grand Gedeh County is planning a major move to restrict children’s movements at night.
The goal, according to the Regional Commander of the Women and Children Department, Samuel Paye is to foster a safer environment by preventing minors from being exposed to illegal drug use and sexual abuse as well as harassments.
Commander Paye a resident of Zwedru disclosed the new initiative while appearing on SMILE FM 98.6 MHz’s Sunrise News Magazine. He stated that the plan is in response to “numerous complaints and crimes committed against children” due to their “long stay in the streets” after dark.
The proposed restriction will target any child seen in the street after 8:00PM.
“Any child seen in the street after 8:00PM that child shall be arrested and thereafter, their parents shall face the charges of the said violation,” Commander Paye cautioned.
He emphasized that the plan’s success is heavily dependent on parents’ involvement; citing them “Paramount figures” in the implementation process.
In conclusion, Commander Paye also expressed his commitment to working closely with the local county authority and the school system to ensure the new night movement restriction is effectively enforced.
