Grand Gedeh: Superintendent Grant Affirms He’s Still at Post despite Caucus’ “Vote of No Confidence”

Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County –Saturday, November 22, 2025–The status of Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Alex Grant remains a topic of intense interest and local controversy, with the official himself insisting he is still in charge despite a recent “Vote of No Confidence” from the county’s Legislative Caucus.

In a short mobile interview on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with Smile FM community radio, Superintendent Grant “vividly disclosed that he remains Grand Gedeh County Superintendent” and is still enjoying a “good relationship with Pres. Boakai.”

Controversy Stems from Land Lease

Superintendent Grant’s position has been under the cloud since the signing of a controversial lease agreement involving 500 acres of customary land in the B’hai Administrative District.

The lease, which was signed for a period of 30 years, allegedly excluded the affected local communities. That said, the lease agreement has been widely criticized for potentially breaching the Land Rights Law of Liberia.

The transaction led to the suspension of Grand Gedeh Land Authority head, Mr. Paye Freeman, and the subsequent reassignment of former County Attorney, Cllr. Wilkins Nah, both of whom were involved in the signing alongside Superintendent Grant.

The incident sparked mass protests by citizens and prompted a quick intervention by the county’s Legislative Caucus, culminating in their issuance of the “Vote of No Confidence” letter against the Superintendent.

Assurance of Imminent Return

When asked about his current location, Supt. Grant stated that he is “currently attending some activities as a Superintendent of Grand Gedeh county,” and is “expected to [return to] Grand Gedeh anytime soon.”

He also used the opportunity to appeal to the county’s populace for calm. He “called on citizens of the county to remain peaceful and assured his return” before the upcoming Unity Party Homecoming event, which is currently scheduled for December 6, 2025.

The situation remains fluid as the county awaits the official’s return and any potential action from the central government following the Caucus’s strong resolution.
