Grand Gedeh County – Police sources in Grand Gedeh County have reported a shocking shooting incident that resulted in the death of two men from the Liberian side of the border with Ivory Coast.

The incident took place on July 11, 2025 in Electoral District #3, Cavalla Administrative District.

Report from the Crime Services Department of the Grand Gedeh Police Detachment said the shooting was allegedly carried out by security forces believed to be Ivorians.

The report described the two victims as a 22-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Kamara, and a 45-year-old Burkinabe national identified as Abdullahi Zougranda.

The report unveiled that Abdullahi Zougranda was on a fishing expedition on an Island in the Cavalla River when he was shot several times with bullets penetrating his mouth and cutting his index finger.

As for Mohammed Kamara, the report indicated that he was mining on the Cavalla River with a dredge, along with two others, when he was shot on sight and subsequently tried swimming to the Liberian side but later got drowned after being subdued by the wounds.

The LNP, upon receiving complaints from a community member, swiftly reported to the scene, set up a 15 men coroner jury who established that the victims died due to the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased requested for the remains of their family members, which were turned over for burial.
