Wedabo District, Grand Kru County |March 9, 2026| Several coastal communities in Grand Kru County are benefiting from a support initiative by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), which has distributed twenty-four outboard engines to fishermen who have remained compliant with the Government of Liberia’s tax regulations.

The initiative targets fishermen who consistently met their tax obligations between 2024 and 2026, rewarding responsible participation in government revenue programs and encouraging sustainable fishing practices across Liberia’s coastal communities.

According to Henry K. Pelenah, President of the Collaborative Management Association (CMA) for Electoral District #1, the program is designed to strengthen the economic capacity of local fishermen while promoting adherence to fisheries regulations established by NaFAA.

Providing a breakdown of the distribution, Mr. Pelenah disclosed that Nifu received two outboard engines, Sasstown received eight, Picnicess received four, Grandcess received nine, and Garraway received one.

The engines were awarded based on the fishermen’s consistent compliance with government tax requirements.

Mr. Pelenah also extended appreciation to the Director-General of NaFAA, J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., for what he described as continued efforts to empower and support fishermen across Grand Kru County.

He noted that the initiative is expected to motivate other fishermen who are not yet meeting their tax obligations to comply with government regulations so they can benefit from similar programs in the future.

Mr. Pelenah made the disclosure during a telephone interview with our reporter on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries expressed appreciation to NaFAA, noting that their consistent payment of government taxes is now producing tangible benefits.

They also encouraged fellow fishermen to follow their example by adhering to national regulations.

Fishermen from several coastal communities praised the fisheries authority for recognizing and rewarding those who remain in good standing with the national government.
