Barclayville City, Grand Kru County– November 26, 2025–Local authorities in Grand Kru County have come under sharp public criticism following allegations that L$50,000 was unlawfully deducted from funds provided by Senator Numene Bartekwa and Senator Albert Tugbe Chie for the county’s participation in the upcoming National County Sports Meet.
According to a highly placed source within the Grand Kru County Sports Steering Committee, the amount received from the county administration was short of the total L$270,000 reportedly contributed by the two senators.
The source, who preferred anonymity, revealed that the committee did not receive the full L$270,000 stated in the official report presented by the County Development Officer (CDO), Joe Sekpeh.
In his earlier announcement, CDO Sekpeh disclosed that he had turned over L$270,000 to the committee on behalf of the Grand Kru County Administration.
He explained that Senator Bartekwa contributed L$100,000, while Senator Chie provided L$170,000 as initial support toward the county’s preparation for the national tournament.
However, the committee source insists that only L$220,000 was delivered, leaving L$50,000 discrepancy that has fueled accusations of financial impropriety within the local administration.
When contacted, Grand Kru County Superintendent Antoinette Wowlee Nimely publicly dismissed the allegations and criticized what she described as misinformation and unnecessary tension.
“Have you forgotten that we have two teams—both boys and girls? So much hate. Why?” Superintendent Nimely stated, suggesting that the funds may have been distributed across multiple sporting categories.
Despite her response, concerned citizens and sports stakeholders are demanding a clearer financial breakdown to determine the exact amount allocated, received, and disbursed.
